I think that's a European saying that your dad was fond of. I hear a good 60% are regularly "trustworthy" in the UK, France, and other such regions. Here in modern Canada it's down to about 30% who your father would approve of. One thing is that in his time, we didn't fully know the effects of ethanol on living tissue! Myself I've got 2 alcoholic younger brothers (one functional and one dying) and no other siblings. I dabbled with beer and booze in my 20s, and have some fun memories of being uninhibited and sloppy at bars or house parties. Wine I just never have liked the taste or feel of. Mostly I drank light coloured (but strong) beers, or booze with mixers. Nowadays I can handle a few drinks in the right occasional social situation, but I'd never make alcohol part of my lifestyle. And I don't currently have any source of such a social situation. Unless the "freedom community" has some sort of Christmas get together in the next couple weeks, but I haven't heard of anything planned. There was a small bonfire shindig last weekend but I didn't get to attend because I didn't have a ride (neither my wife nor I are permitted to operate a vehicle). I think people should use alcohol if they want to, and support their decision to do so, as long as they aren't harming others in the process of course... that's Liberty! I'm glad you're enjoying your own alcohol, and getting a boost from all those grapes. They say fermentation is a sign of civilization, and every major culture figures out how to do it before long. You can consider yourself very civilized! And making something yourself is boss, the more of that the better.
