Well I'm scratching my head, too. It doesn't seem worth it.
I've been harassed for self-voting comments, too. I do that sometimes to make a comment more visible, or to put a comment over the 2c payout threshhold when somebody else gives me 1.5c or something. I was told to NOT vote for yourself was weak and lame. Now I'm told it's gaming the system and profiteering. I swear, people are acting like little policemen, micromanaging other peoples' behaviour. I thought we could vote with out stake how we wanted? When it comes to downvotes (which harm a person's rep and finances), and dishing out punishment for what is seen as "wrong" voting, that's a bit creepy.
Just my thinking on it..
Maybe there are better front ends and tags to support.
