I think my brother was addicted most during 2011 to 2016. I watched him play almost every night. I knew a lot of regular players by their XBox names because my brother talked to them all the time. Myself, I was mostly just watching to see the zombies get destroyed over and over :D Like sitting around watching a movie, but it's slightly different each time.
