I think most meters (water, gas, electricity, etc) are "smart" here now. I don't know about de-energizing.
Thanks for your kind concern! We will do what it takes to survive. One thing all the hardships I've been through in recent years has done for us is make us even more resourceful and tough. That said, we're also pretty beat up, and not really at our best right now.
The latest update... the order to evacuate has moved to the edge of town, a couple miles from here. The fire is a few miles further out. With just a light wind it can cover a lot of ground. We woke up with chunks of burned wood and pine needles all over everything today. The heat is letting up a bit, but expected back all week. People around town seem on edge. A lot of people have left already. I see a lot of campers and trucks parked and aimed outwards, ready to go.
