I've been studying my genealogy during lockdown. I get the impression there were some major pros and cons, compared to life today. This is an exciting time to be alive, but sometimes I do wish for the simplicity and freedom available to my ancestors.
If I could physically get myself to Europe, I'd love to make my way to your area. I'd be willing to give up my physical belongings to make it happen, but even that sacrifice doesn't get me any closer to making it a reality. I simply can't physically get my body, or that of my wife and infant, from here to there. Like I was saying before, I have someone who would go to bat for me, who has said I can build with him in the hills overlooking the coast of Montenegro. My dream life is awaiting... but I can't get there to begin it. So I'll continue to hope the world changes in a way that opens up a way for me to leave Canada. Until then, I'm also looking for ways I could be self-sustaining in a community here, although the locations for doing so in this country are limited. My ancestors did survive on the prairies before there was power or roads, but at 46 and disabled (with a crippled wife) I have to be realistic. I need something coastal and southern. Maybe the USA/Canada border will stop being a barrier at some point, for whatever reason? Then I'd have access to more temperate locations, but that's a big if.
