Dude, it's vegan* and gluten-free! You win!
(Not sure what, other than my upvote and comment, for what they're worth.)
I actually have all those ingredients in the house, and happen to enjoy granola, but don't have any on hand. So all I can say is thank you! I was actually hoping something tasty and fun like this could come along today, and you provided.
Extra points for doing it on a campfire. Badass, bro! I love campfire cooking (and hate it, too, of course.... it's definitely prone to burns, spills, and ash in your dinner).
As for the star on vegan, you're right that honey is not technically on the list of foods on a vegan diet. That said, I'm not dietarily vegan, I'm ethically vegan. I'm about not causing harm to other sentient beings. Now I'm not going to say bees aren't alive, nor will I say they aren't important, nor will I say they aren't really cool, nor will I say they aren't somewhat intelligent. That said, I believe honey can be obtained in ways that do no harm to individual bees, or to the health of the hive in general. I also believe encouraging more honeybees is a good thing as their numbers have been threatened due to our use of pesticides. Honey also stores VERY well long term, and has some nutritional and medicinal benefits. Of course every person is different in how they decide what they eat, support, buy, consume, etc. For me and my wife, we have some natural honey on hand. We also use organic maple syrup and agave nectar from time to time (little to no white sugar). All that to say I will make your recipe as you've listed it here, and for me, still call it vegan. Your mileage may vary!
Much love, have a great night :)
