I told my parents, who are overseas on vacation right now, that international travel may become restricted in the coming months, and suggested they get to where they want to be for a while.
Their response:
"Thank you, but the virus will be mopped up and gone soon. Some of those cruise passengers got released and arrived back here today. How dreadful their vacation was spoiled like that!"
They make a point to never take my advice about anything (for example, they ignored me about buying gold at 1050 CAD), so I'm not surprised.
Personally I fear people's reactions (including market turmoil you're talking about here) more than the sickness itself. But supply chains could become disrupted, leading to greater instability across multiple sectors. It's not a good thing, that's for sure. Exactly how bad is hard to gauge, with all the disinfo and overreaction happening.
