Hey everyone, how's it going? It's a pleasure to post here again. Hope you all are doing wonderfully well even in these hard times. All praise be to God, Amen.

So today I'll be talking about a really relatable topic. I termed it screen time because I'll be talking about how how much time on our phones affect us and our overall prosperity in life.

Whenever I get mobile data on my phone, I just can't control myself any longer. Normally I do have my schedule for each day to guide me on how I should use my time. Most of the days, I don't have mobile data to go online so I do focus very well on my tasks. However, any day I get mobile data– like yesterday 😅– I will not rest. It's from YouTube to Facebook to WhatsApp; distractions everywhere, especially this app called YouTube 😤.

But you see, after I had finished watching video after video after video, I remembered the tasks at hand. It was then I looked at the time and realized that I was about two to three hours behind time. I've been angry before but yesterday I was just so infuriated. I wanted to smash my phone on the floor and punch a hole through wall. I wasted so much time again just like every other day I get mobile data😞. I was like...

This might be a little relatable, maybe very relatable for you (apart from the punching a hole through the wall part maybe 😂). This digital age is filled with a lot of distractions and you know what, I've decided to cut down a lot of my screen time. Yesterday I decided to freeze some of those apps that are enticing so I won't see them nor would I receive notifications from them. I think some of us might need to consider doing that too.

So much time on the phone has so much affected the productivity of so many people, especially young people like me. So many of us cannot just sit down and plan ourselves or set out tasks for each period of the day. Even when we do set out tasks, we get distracted so much by our phones. I'm a victim. So come on, join me, let's put our phones down for once and focus.

WHY DO WE GET SO ADDICTED TO THE SCREEN?

Well, according to this source, our body craves to have it's reward center stimulated. When we engage in pleasurable activities– in this case Facebook and TikTok 😅– dopamine is released into our blood stream (that's the "feel-good" hormone). Also we crave for information. Humans have always craved for more information. Now we can get as much as we need online in a few seconds. That's why we're so much addicted.

EFFECTS OF EXCESS SCREEN TIME:
Just to list a few health challenges that arise from too much screens time, we have:

  • Sleep problems.
  • Obesity.
  • Depression.
  • Educational problems for kids.
  • Violence.

Yup, I think it's time to reduce our screen time a lot. I don't want sleep problems 'mahhn'.

Thank you.
