It all happened so fast. What a gruesome day it certainly was with thunderstorms raging from behind me to add to it's gloominess. Oh, how I had thought that I would return to my abode to meet my two brothers playing video games on that old stuffy couch as usual. Yet, here I was, standing at the door. I could smell a rotten corpse from behind but couldn't confirm until I opened the door. There they were, my two brothers, weeping profusely with a photo in their hands. What horror! Something had died, no, someone.
In utter shock, I dropped the grocery bag in my hand on the ground. I gasped, "What's going on?"
"She's gone," Tony, my brother said. JJ, my other brother kept dabbing his eyes with the kerchief in his one hand and a photo in the other. They were devastated. I hadn't seen them cry in a long while.
"Who's gone? Is Tina okay?" I said, coming closer now. Tina was our grey furred cat.
JJ said, "No no bro. Tina's fine. It's different from that." Now he took the photo and stretched his hairy arm towards me. "Here bro," he said while handing me the photo. Tony now stood up weeping and walked into another room. I was shocked to the spine. What could it have been that made my two buff brothers cry so much? I took a look at the photo.
"You're joking!"
"Do I look like I'm joking?" JJ said quietly.
"Where did you get this from?"
"It's in every single person's mail," he said with a whimper.
"No, no, no! This gotta be a joke. It's not possible!"
"It's everywhere on the news bro. She's gone."
At that, I immediately grabbed the white remote control from the ebony table that sat at the center of the living room. With a shaky hand, I turned on the TV still hoping that this could've all been a simple prank. Of course Tony and JJ loved to make fun of me. This time, I was wrong.
"It surely is a devastating day in all the world as HIVE finally announces its shutting down after tomorrow, Sunday the 4th of September. This is as a result of the three week long contention among shareholders. A memorial service has been put in place for all HIVE members, which represents more than 85 percent of the globe on the 18th of September this year. Further information regarding...."
I turned off the TV on hearing these words from the reporter. I could hear the despair in her voice as she uttered those words. I knew she felt the same pain as Tony, JJ and I felt.
I hadn't even closed the door nor picked up the grocery bag. With all swiftness, I ran into my bedroom and opened up my laptop. Every second I had to wait for it to boot up increased my worries by a tenth. My heartbeat rate increased. I just couldn't believe it.
It was then that I opened up my browser and searched for my dear HIVE. She was still there. She was still alive! My faint smile struggled earnestly to keep up with my broken heart. A tear rolled down my face. I began to write to her;
Hey dear. It's me again. You know, you are so precious to me HIVE. You've saved me countless times before and I had hoped you would save me countless more times ahead. It's crazy, huh? Remember my intro post? Yeah, that was fun, wasn't it? I mean, that was a long time ago. You've been more than a blockchain, you've been family. You really saw me through when I was in a huge state of frustration. I had nowhere else to turn to. Nobody cared about my passions, until you came along. I'm grateful that I shared so much with you. I'll miss you.
I published it. That was the last time we ever spoke.
