Hello Steemians. In one of the many ways that freedom is fought for and kept can be seen through the Korean War Memorial in Washington D.C. My previous trip to DC involved a tour of the monuments and this one was a special treat to see. When I was younger and live in the DC vicinity, the Korean War Memorial was just beginning to be built. I don’t have any pictures of it now. But, the soldiers for a period of time were just statues in grass that people could walk up to and see in detail. Now, the Memorial is complete and very emotional to view.

The memorial is set up like a platoon coming out of a forested alcove and into the open. From a distance it appears that it’s just an American Army platoon. But, a closer looks at each of the statues shows different nations that helped in the conflict.

The picture from the rear of the memorial gives you the impression of what it would be like as part of the platoon, coming out of the woods in war time and making sure that you were alert and aware of your surroundings.

Two poignant signs left me in deep thought when I visited. First was the sign at the memorial stating that freedom isn’t free. You need to fight for your convictions, beliefs, and freedoms. The second was a wreath provided from South Korea. It was showing a sign of thanks for being there and help keeping freedom for the people of South Korea.
