Dear egg, (@sarashew)
Happy Birthday.
I'm almost a month late in saying this, but I know you wouldn't mind much. We've both passed the level where tiny things like this even matter, where holding a sense of formality seems almost childish.
A journey from one hell to another; me and you, we both have seen it all. Not all as in a 'all-there-is-to-see' kind of sense, of course. It's more of a 'all-we-could-see-together' kind of thing. And we did. It's a never-ending ride, as it seems. And I'm glad to have someone as tolerable as you around me.
In my life, I've always been a privet sort of thing. If anyone looks closely, they'll see I have this veil that keeps all of who I am apart from the rest of the world. There may be a handful (I doubt that) of people who know me for me, and you are one of them. Which is an outstanding achievement, for both of us.
Last year, has been nothing but a ride. And the decade since I've known you, has been a journey that looks like it was plucked out of an agonisingly dull movie. I do wonder how we both ended up here, of all places, and it leaves me speechless from time to time.
For instance, we've finally, after years of complaining, managed to bag ourselves some friends! Ha! Can you even imagine?!
That group from How I Met Your Mother doesn't seem like a far-fetched idea anymore, and it has been fascinating, to see how we've ended up gaining this, with all the disinterest we've shown throughout it all.
I think what surprises me – and I know it surprises you as well – is our reluctance to leave. We've found a place where we actually want to stay for a change. And that, I'll say, is the best birthday gift you can ever have.
I'll not wish you a life filled with joy and purpose. Because you and I both know how idiotic these wishes end up being. We are no longer thirteen, and life is no longer painted in colours.
What I'll wish for you, is that this place, it sticks. I wish you could build something out of her egg. Curve a presence in the place we've found, in the people you've met. I've never been one to embrace everything around me all at once. There's always been a wall for me that I never could break. But I sure hope you can. And I sure hope you do.
Stay alive, sunshine. The earth hates you, but she is saying hello anyways. :')
Here's to hope, which has always been faint. But I'm an optimist! So, sue me! :v
Your friend,
... :)
