"What's wrong?" says my husband.

"Nothing." says me.

"Then how come you have the boo boo face?"

"I don't."

"ohhhhh, I'm sad. My puppy has a boo boo face, and she is sad."

haha! I'm actually laughing right now as I'm thinking of this conversation that's happened over the years! The funniest thing is - when I TRY to do this so-called "boo boo face" to manipulate my husband into giving me something I want.... He will tell me "That's not the boo boo face" 馃ぃ

I have NO idea what this face looks like. I have NO IDEA what it feels like when I'm portraying this sadness - but HE CAN SEE IT right away.

Now, to answer the question posed by our LADIES OF HIVE community contest #56 question:

  • If you are in a bad mood, do you prefer to be left alone or have someone to cheer you up?

I would answer RIGHT AWAY... I want to be left alone.

But that doesn't cheer me up. I just kinda descend into more sadness and pull away, and apparently - I have a boo boo face. LOL

But here is what I noticed,

My hubby has watched me over the years. And he has this little secret smile when he finds ways to pull me out of these sad moods. He has LET ON in one way or another over the many many years of our marriage that these are fail-safe treatments for the boo boo face.

  • He won't say a word, he will just sneakily put on country music from the 90s (Tim McGraw, Dixie Chicks, Martina McBride, JoDee Messina, etc.) and when I start singing, that's when he smiles. Because he knows - the mood has turned.
  • "Where we going?" He'll just see the face, and know that going on a drive and getting something to eat out will turn my frown upside down. hehe What can I say - I'm a foodie! LOL

  • He will sit near me and take a very deep breath and sigh. I do NOT know when I started to do this, but apparently that makes me take the same kind of deep breath. This one I noticed recently. I recognized his smile and then I realized (backwards) that I just breathed deeply/sighed right after he did. He never brings attention to these things - he just smiles.

  • He will sit near me and run his hand down my leg, massaging and squeezing as he goes from thigh to ankle. This feels SO amazing, and immediately - by the time he gets to my calf, I'm purring - and then I do the big sigh again... and he just smiles.

The thing that's really funny about him is that you'd think that a spouse would kinda walk around proud like a peacock that they have all these techniques that work to lighten your mood. But he knows that if he does that - it will kinda lose its magic. So he just smiles.

I think that's so cool 馃槍

oh - i forgot to invite someone! hmmmm is maryjacy@maryjacy a part of Ladies of Hive yet? hehehe if not - you're invited! hehehe
