One of my all time favorite happy places has featured in many a post, which makes sense considering how much time I've spent here over the years from childhood to now.
I never grow tired of this particular "walk with me", climbing down the side of the bank onto the stone roof of this long ago army bunker.
I usually spend some time lounging here, but it's cold outside and the stone will freeze my tushy, so I'll climb down through the hole to stand at the water's edge instead.
There's almost no better place to observe the changing of the seasons.
The difference between a few weeks ago and now is startling, nevermind a few months ago when the lake was inviting rather than forbidding.
Sunny summer days transitioned to crisp autumn, now turned to stark winter in NY.
The winds are howling, the sky growing darker by the day.
At least here there is a magic in the air, a kind of Brother's Grimm feel in the atmosphere.
I would rather that than the dull grey skies that make it hard to set foot outside sometimes...I understand why some species hibernate.
"Wake me up when it's all over" is a sentiment I truly comprehend.
And it's not the cold, not really, it's the absence of sun that is hardest for me.
Oh how I will miss the blue skies!
But I have to admit it does serve as a reminder not to take such things for granted.
And on those rare days of blue over the next several months, when the sun sparkles off the snow, I will remember to take a moment to be thankful :0)
As I am thankful in this moment for @tattoodjay and his awesome #wednesdaywalk initiative!
