I love this post for the way it's making me reflect. I would say that my nature would lean toward agreeing with you.

While I'm very social while out and about, I prefer my house to be a haven. It's one of the things that I had to compromise when I chose Howie as my husband, haha! He is an open door, a "don't even knock, just walk right in; mi casa su casa" individual.

In the early years our first home was truly grand central station. A neverending stream of drop ins. And it did drive me crazy, to the extent that I would frequently disappear out the window of our bedroom onto the roof that was happily shielded by trees, affording privacy.

We moved to Punta Gorda Florida from upstate NY and this changed, simply because we didn't know very many people. I made a rule that he couldn't be too friendly with the neighbors lol! Small talk and cheery waves only. We still managed to have our share of social calls, but it was greatly diminished. When we moved back to NY, I was worried that I would lose the sanctuary, but fortunately hubs was sensitive to my need this time around. We still have plenty of company, it's unavoidable with family and lifelong friends nearby, as well as a teenage son, but I'm no longer plagued by hordes of acquaintances, and have much more quiet time.

One day though, the goal is a traveling Mercedes van and a small cabin surrounded by woods for home base!
