I'm surprised by all this nostalgia for 22+ episode per season format. I can explain it only as a reaction against contemporary Netflix-like atrocities of having a single "cool" and megaexpensive 8-episode season followed either by brutal cancellation or 2-3 year hiatus after which anyone forgets what the plot was, child actors outgrow their roles etc.

Yet, at the same time, everyone forgets that 22+ episode was format invented and mainly applied to US television. British television, which, by all accounts, had better quality than US television, at least in 20th century, makes series that are either longer (30-100 episodes), or, which is, more common, much shorter (6-8 episodes).

In the end, it all depends what the plot and the story is. Game of Thrones could have been, IMHO, better and avoided some of problems of their latter seasons if it had 13 instead of 10 episodes per season. Star Trek Enterprise could have survived to planned fifth season if they had 13-16 episode instead 22+.
