Democrats are stuck with Biden and they have only themselves to blame. The problem is not only whether Biden would lose to Trump in November, but also whether the country and the rest of the world be affected by control over most powerful country in the worlds, including the nuclear arsenal, being at the hands of someone who, to put it charitably, simply isn't there.
Democrats could have agreed to truly competitive primary, giving RFK Jr. at least nominal chance. Instead, they took the the route of least resistance and decided to have Biden coronated, hoping that his decline wouldn't be that rapid and/or that Trump would simply self-implode. Or they could have anticipated this issue and set up orderly transition to Kamala, whether as caretaking President or actual anti-Trump candidate.
Instead, they gambled on Biden, just as in 2020, winning the debate and turning the election trends around by simply not being as bad as Trump propaganda claimed. Now it all blew in Biden's and Democrats' faces and the world sees that emperor doesn't have any clothes.
Any attempt to remove Biden now through "friendly suggestion" would be mockery of the democracy and would reek of palace coups, creating impression that rich donors and ambitious players in the background (Newsom, "Big Mike" and Hilary) play much bigger role than actual will of Democratic primary voters. And any alleged 5d chess move, like the one described in conspiracy theories that claim that Biden's debate implosion was Democrats' plan all along, is likely to have unintended and catastrophic consequences.
The best thing for Democats, USA and the world, and I guess Biden himself, would be for him to resign and let Kamala be president, either until January 2025 or, if she beats Trump, for next four years. This solution, for better or worse, is the only one that would restore faith in USA being democracy.
