Election seems to be over at this point. The assassination turned out to be the Worst Case Scenario for Democrats. Trump, slightly grazed and visibly bloodied, defiantly rising fist in the air, is an era-defining iconic image with the effects that might resonate beyond the actual election.

Democrats, who were very vocal about forcing to Biden to step aside are suddenly very quiet now, with some media reports even suggesting that they are "quietly resigned" to Trump winning in November. I think there is some sort of long-term calculation behind it. Like letting Biden (or Kamala) crash and burn would cause less damage to the party and its future than trying to stop Trump through increasingly desperate and counterproductive moves. Trump is, after all, a known commodity who can be handled, like he was handled in his first term. And when he leaves White House in 2029, many of the ambitious Democrat players who sat this one out will be in better position to present themselves as saviours of America and the world.

Of course, many things can happen between now and November - another assassination attempt, health issues, wars escalations, terrorist attacks. And a lot of will depend who Trump chooses as his VP.
