The only way for such ambitious TV shows to avoid cancellation is to produce them in one piece, or at least have some general outline how the plot and characters should develop and how the should they end. Peter Jackson took this approach with The Lord of the Rings trilogy by making three films back-to-back, and Breaking Bad was developed with the narrative structure of five seasons - a plan executed exactly as its creator Vince Gilligan intended.

Concept of "hook the fans of popular novel with a single season and see what happens next" will result in failure in 90-95 percent of cases, even if you have such financial resources as Amazon. Especially now when viewers have countless alternatives. Amazon probably didn't help cause of Wheel of Time by launching Rings of Power at the same time.
