What Robert Rodriguez started in 2007 as an entertainingly fake trailer in Planet Terror continued as actual film Machete in 2010, successful enough to warrant sequel called Machete Kills. Danny Trejo returns in his title role of former Mexican federal agent and part-time assassin. The plot begins with the killing of his partner Sartana Rivera (played by Jessica Alba) after which Machete, arrested for murder, accepts US government offer to conduct suicide mission in Mexico against insane revolutionary Marcos Mendes (played by Demian Bichir). While trying to discover Sartana's killer Machete gets embroiled in a conflict with powerful tycoon Voz (played by Mel Gibson). The plot doesn't make much sense and the script, written by Kyle Ward, has abandoned any semblance of political overtones. Quality of humour and action is significantly dropped compared to the previous film, but the general impression remains positive, mostly due to very good cast, including Mel Gibson who shines in the role of Bond villain.
