Birdman, 2014 Oscar-winning film by Alejandro G. Inarritu, features Michael Keaton as Riggan Thomson, an actor who used to be great Hollywood action film star before fading away and who tries to resurrect his career by producing, directing and starring in prestigious Broadway stage production. This is in many ways a unusual film, mostly because it belongs to genre of black comedy, which is hardly Inarritu鈥檚 specialty. Script takes great effort to satirise both vulgar commercialism Hollywood and art snobbery of Broadway, while obvious parallels between fictious Thomson and real life Keaton give this film special "meta" quality. Even more unusual is use of single shot in an entire film, flawlessly maintained despite plot using different places and times. This technical feat is, however, compromised by Antonio Sanchez鈥檚 jazz soundtrack that at times annoyingly reminds audience that they are watching art film.
