Groundhog Day is a popular tradition celebrated in the United States and Canada on February 2. It derives from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees a shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks, and if he does not, due to cloudiness, spring season will arrive early.

Groundhogs are everywhere in North America, we even have a little family making a home under our backyard shack for years. I enjoy watching them in the summer, they mostly eat grass and fallen fruits from apple and pear trees. While mama groundhog is out gathering food, baby groundhogs rarely leave their burrow; they point their heads out from time to time, and promptly return into hiding at the slightest noise or sign of danger. They're fun to watch and very skittish. It's not always easy to photograph them.
