School boy rugby in South Africa is a big part of the way of life when it comes to Saturday mornings. Crowds of between 10 and 20 000 can be expected to attend most games and it is a pleasant rivalry between the schools involved.
10k-20k at a school match, bloody hell those are serious numbers, there are club teams in my neck of the woods that couldn't manage that level of support!
When I was refereeing I only had one tricky moment with parents and it was a quick fix. The parents were asked to leave the match and the match would only resume once they had vacated the area. This was at a private school in the UK and was dealt with on only the way I know which did not cause a scene or upset anyone.
Man tolerates no BS, haha yeah man! There must be a shade of Nigel Owens about you, jeeze I love watching him lecturing the big forwards like they were little schoolboys, by the time he's finished it's all "Yes Sir, Sorry Sir".
The second brawl had parents or old boys fighting each other which is insane considering the boys playing their game were 11 years old. I have no words because this is not what we would call a family morning out and there is no place for this behavior in society. This is an embarrassment for the schools involved and you do wonder what kind of standards are being upheld.
Hard to argue. If we fastfoward a bit to adult games though, the issue is trickier. If you're out there putting the body on the line and some big ass forward starts on you, then you kinda want a few team mates to pile in to set the tone and understand it's one for all and all for one. Suppose at that level no punches really are really thrown or it's offski, but still you want a wingman or two.
