Not too long ago I attended a talk about disruptive technologies and the future of our world and after attending that talk I started to get really interested in innovation. The definition of a disruptive technology is an innovation that creates a new market and value network and eventually disrupts an existing market and value network, displacing established market leaders and alliances.
To me displacing established market leaders and alliances sounds like a positive thing because I think a lot of existing market leaders and alliances are out of date and not changing fast enough for the exponential growth technology is experiencing. It is also frightening though as a lot of people will be displaced as well as emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, 3D printing and more will have a gigantic impact on our current way of experiencing life and it is difficult to plan for these, which is why they are disruptive technologies. As a student and a millennial it is difficult to get my head around having such an uncertain future even though I am excited by all the new technology and innovations and would like to get involved with them but more are going to come as we experience exponential growth of technology, currently it seems the world will continue to change at a faster rate. In the past people might have wondered about how the world will be in 5 or 10 years but now even in 2 years or less there is so much change and it's so hard to plan for that apart from being interested and involved in new technology. This is an extremely interesting TEDx talk that I would recommend watching
I guess we have to just wait and see what happens while keeping ourselves interested and up to date with technology
