Yesterday, I finally arrived in Las Terrenas, Dominican Republic. 45px-Flag_of_the_Dominican_Republic.svg.png This afternoon I got to put up my hammock between two palm trees sea-side, thinking a nap was in order. Truth is, it was way too breezy and bright to nap, so I just laid back and enjoyed the view for a bit, then headed home via a walk on the beach.

The view from my hammock.

"Las Terrenas is a town on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic, located in the province of Samaná. It is known for its scenic landscapes, white sand beaches and clear waters." source

The walk on the beach led to a ride on the back of motorcycle up to the Pola Supermercado where I purchased groceries for the week. Everything I bought is "criollo," which means that it was produced in the Dominican Republic. My bill was $RD1,302 or just about $US26.

Then I cooked up some yucca with red onions in coconut oil mixed with canola, sprinkled it with coconut vinegar (yup, it's a thing!), added a boiled egg, smothered on some butter and sliced up some domestic cheese "Danes."

For dessert, I had some Dominican "bizcocho" or cake - vanilla cake with guava jelly between the cake layers, and topped with "suspiro," which literally means a sigh, but is a kind of cruchy, egg-white frosting. I'm not sure how to describe it, beyond this. Dominican cakes are special.

In the end, it's been a really great day, and I'm happy to share it with y'all.
