Obviously this is not a post on what it truly costs to play splinterlands as that is entirely dependent on what you are willing and able to put in to the game, you can have a fun time playing splinterlands for free quite easily or you can put $50,000 in and take whole different route to how you enjoy the ecosystem.
But with the return of brackets on the horizon I do want to spend some time looking at what it would cost to max out a deck at each level, and specifically Silver level, but, there are a few caveats on this…
If you want to play the game there are plenty of different approaches from free to play to large investment to scholarships.
Playing Frontier Mode
Obviously you can walk into the frontier mode and do the campaign and play for free, daily spins on the wheel can earn the dragon extra cards and daily battle wins lead to free cards ,packs and possible jackpots including the other extra cards. However if you did want to buy a max collection for each level of frontier cards on day 1 this would currently be…
| Set | Wood | Bronze | Silver |
|---|---|---|---|
| Foundation | $1.64 | $9.23 | $24.79 |
| Foundation (Extra) | $32.37 | $199.32 | $387.50 |

Picking up the extra cards is not essential for playing frontier and you can get a good start in modern just using a frontier deck. $24.79 for a headstart in the game seems like a great price.
Moving straight to modern
As I said above, a max foundation set (even excluding extra cards), is a great start in Modern but also with Battle for Praetoria on the horizon it may be worth thinking about being very selective with what you buy from Rebellion if you are just joining the game.
But what would it cost to max out a deck for each level if we just looked at Conclave Arcana and Escalation?
| Set | Wood | Bronze | Silver | Gold | Diamond |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CA | $143.84 | $252.48 | $648.40 | $1652.43 | $2,696.33 |
| CA (Reward) | $29.62 | $47.22 | $129.13 | $326.06 | $539.21 |
| CA (Promo) | $100.04 | $189.15 | $492.94 | $1307.56 | $2,105.99 |
| CA (Extra) | $118.34 | $147.11 | $442.42 | $1034.94 | $1,836.84 |
| Escalation | $58.90 | $96.75 | $265.45 | $680.91 | $1,121.88 |

So to pick up cards to Silver level and have a full(ish) collection of Conclave Arcana and Escalation preparing for Battle of Praetoria it’s going to cost $2,391.00, I say fullish as there are a few cards missing and a few cards that that are over levelled for Silver.
Realistically the cost is a lot lower as there are cards you can do without and just concentrating on two or three elements could give you a competitive deck at most levels. I'm planning on doing a video series and try and keep track of the price of playing in modern over the coming months so keep an eye out on YouTube so subscribe over there and keep up with the series.
