I wrote the poem below in 1991 when my oldest daughter was a teenager struggling with the hold drugs and alcohol had on her. But for the Grace of God she became clean and sober not to long after this.
WHAT LOVE MEANS TO ME
Love is when you let another person make their own choices
Love is when you hug another person then willing to let them go
Love is not possession but sharing
Love is when you stop talking and really listen
Love is when you're apart but still feel a common bond
Love is laughing with each other and truly experiencing happiness
Love is crying with each other knowing that with time everything will be alright
Love is distancing yourself so resentment does not set in
Love is forever
Love is watching a person strive for their truth
Love is God gently guiding me in my climb
Love is true friends who stand by my side
Love is loving yourself and really meaning it
