I personally don't think Ripple would ever fulfill its intended usecase. If they would, they should have gotten over this in the past years. Undoubtedly, they have the community, volume, but they need to provide a working solution to be regarded a success. Even newer projects like Changenow.io are making products that are working and serving their mission and vision, albeit with a lesser community.
