Thirteen years ago, Daredevil #510 was published and all hell was breaking loose in Hell's Kitchen. It was at this time that Daredevil accepted his role as leader of the Hand. On the same block in which he murdered Bullseye, Daredevil created Shadowland, which was designed to act as a prison. White Tiger was working against Daredevil to ensure that his soul was taken over by the Beast. White Tiger also dispatched ninjas to dispose of Foggy Nelson and Dakota North, two of Daredevil's most trusted friends. Luke Cage and Iron Fist led a team of superheroes to interfere with this plan. The question of trust becomes muddled even further when Master Izo and Elektra get involved!
The cover art by John Cassaday and Laura Martin really drew me in as it shows Wilson Fisk holding a piece of fabric from Daredevil's red costume, with the man without fear's profile looking on from behind in a dark costume. Marco Checchetto and Matt Hollingsworth visually create the dark scenario for the story panels through their artwork. The story by Andy Diggle and Antony Johnston perfectly relates the inner conflict and confusion being experienced by the major players.
North and Nelson are trying to stay hidden. Although they are found, Black Tarantula had their backs. Detective Alex Kurtz is trying to maintain law and order in a city that is turning against each other. He even uses a can of Baked Beans to stop a robbery. And throughout all of this, Matt Murdock is nowhere to be found even though his body is hidden in plain sight. The only thing left of Murdock's future is the unleashing of the Beast and the Kingpin wants him taken down!
