With the Avenger movies pulling in some very high streaming numbers, it is not surprising that Marvel decided to reprint a 2-part story as one book last summer. As told by Jim Starlin, we find Thanos has cheated death again with some help from Mistress Death. Thanos has always been a devoted follower of this queen. It appears that she is upset with the balance between life and death. Therefore, Thanos quest is to basically lower the universe's population.
Figuring that he would need the six Infinity Gems to accomplish his mission more effectively, he convinces the queen to let him go after these stones first. Thanos must go through six targets to achieve his goal. These targets include the In-Betweener, the Champion, the Gardener, the Collector, the Runner and the Grand Master.
As he collects each stone, they bring a different power to his well-being. There is the Time Gem, the Space Gem, the Mind Gem, the Gem Of Power, the Soul Gem and the Reality Gem. The danger that possessing all of these Gems can bring about in the wrong hands is mind-blowing!
When dealing with Mistress Death, Thanos always had to speak to her through her minions. Understanding the complex being that is Thanos, one would have to wonder if he had his own backstabbing plan in the works by chasing down these stones of power. Thanos thought by possessing these gems, he could now sit next to Mistress Death on the throne and speak to her directly. Surprisingly, Thanos professes his love for the queen. However, her minions inform him that he is now her superior by possessing these stones. The acquisition of these powerful items may have given Thanos the ultimate power needed to control the universe, but not the love he seeks!
