So, Deadpool has thirty candles on his cake and what better way to celebrate than with a one-shot issue that involves some friends and many short stories involving many of Marvel's respected writers and artists! Naturally, the creators of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza played their part in wishing Deadpool a very Happy Birthday! Also joining in on the festivities were writers Gail Simone, Daniel Way, Gerry Duggan, Brian Posehn, Chad Bowers, Kelly Thompson, Skottie Young and Joe Kelly. The list of incredible artists included Mike Hawthorne, Nathan Fairbairn, Jay David Ramos, Patch Zircher, Kevin Libranda, Bob Quinn, Aaron Conley, Gerardo Sandoval, Michael Shelfer, Paco Medina and Scott Koblish.
The manic stories presented of Deadpool are perfect for a superhero who doesn't take his situations seriously, as well as sometimes poking fun at the comic book process. In one story, a pre-Deadpool infant Wade Wilson has to deal with many versions of Cable interrupting his birthday party. Deadpool seems to be having a birthday in each of these mini-graphic masterpieces. An interruption by Wolverine during what appears to be Wade Wilson becoming prom queen leads to a "Carrie" reference.
In one short, Mr. Wilson must have infuriated the letterer, VC's Joe Sabino, with a comment about Perpetual Cellular Regeneration. At one point, Wilson felt like he should known as Canada's Captain America. However, why stop there? Then came the General Germany and Private Portugal monikers. He even likened himself to Spider-man.
Stilt-man didn't prove to be the perfect audience for Deadpool's stand-up jokes. It was good to see Domino and Diamondback show up as backup. In the movie Deadpool 2, Domino was involved in one of the funniest scenes! You should watch it to check it out! Only Deadpool can get away with smuggling a drug scientist out of Managua and handcuffing him inside a freezer filled with cake and ice cream.
Deadpool should be applauded for his humor, especially considering his dire circumstances. It's even hard to tell if he's gone mad from certain situations, such as when he was having a conversation with his mask. This is no easy task because his mask is very much needed to hide his deformed face. This issue can be chalked up to a bunch of Marvel employees having fun in a celebratory way with a cancerous superhero that doesn't take anything too seriously. Deadpool, happy "nerdy thirty!"
