People aren't voting enough in U.S. elections some say, although they should be considering those who don't vote as a vote in itself that people had better things to do that day and decided to spend their time elsewhere.
Is forcing them to vote instead going to be a solid solution to turn any problems around? If we say we respect people's decisions to vote shouldn't that also automatically include people who don't want to vote?
Why wouldn't someone want to vote their will onto others through the voting polls though, gasp, what a horrible idea to ponder you might think. Daring not to vote? The horror.
But those individuals for one might not feel anyone truly represents their interests so should they devalue their own values to satisfy others? Why? Is lowering individual values and standards the path to progress?
It isn't a surprise that politicians might want to use force in another area of an individuals life, this is what they do on a regular basis. Why can't they accept that no vote is still a vote and just as someone feels entitled to vote their opinions through left or right or green etc, an individual who aligns with no such party should be equally free to not vote, whether or not people agree with that decision.
The only kind of respectable democracy is that which is voluntary, where individuals aren't forced into it against their values and will.
