NYC Mayor Eric Adams has made news recently after reportedly lashing out at a woman over the issue of high rent prices in the city.

The woman is a housing activist and Adams compared the woman to a plantation owner demanding that she treat him with respect and reminding her that he was an adult.

If political leaders aren't going to treat individuals who they rule over with respect then how can they demand that of others?

Rent prices in NY have reached record highs recently around the region with the median price going around $4200 in some areas.

As one of the most popular real estate destinations in the country and the world it isn't surprising to see high prices in this region.

Some reports have suggested that to afford rent comfortably that an income well over $100k might be needed.

Political leaders arguably seem completely out of touch with regular working folk these days when they are going to quickly disregard concerns about rent that are making life continually unaffordable for millions.

It isn't always as simple as they should just move away, especially when they don't have the resources or any social network/family in other regions, as well as little to no job offers too.

For some, such as those working from home, it might be easier.

What about for those who have medical issues and who have well established doctor relationships etc in the area that they are living in and continually being priced out of? It can create a lot of stress for even those working full-time jobs, sometimes multiple jobs, if they feel they are at a high risk of one day ending up on the street. Is it within the interest of the state to see more families and individuals end up potentially homeless? Is that a sign of a healthy economy? Is that what the American dream looks like?

Should political leaders be doing more to help people of all different economic backgrounds to create a prosperous future?

Are they ignoring the needs of many?

And if they are then how can they demand respect at the same time? If you rule over people with force rather than voluntary consent then where is the respect found in that scenario to begin with?
