As a result of the millions of egg-laying birds that have had to be killed over the bird flu concerns this means that there is an issue with the supply chain losing a significant portion of those egg-laying birds. The price of eggs and other items is expected to be impacted.
Eggs alone have been increasing in price, the price of eggs has surged in 2022 and increased around 10% in just one month alone this fall.
Eggs have recently topped the US food inflation list because of that climbing price, along with rising demand around this time of year as well, combine that with the impact of the bird flu crisis which is greatly impacting the industry. This is one of the worst bird flu scenarios that has unfolded in years in the market.
This is one of the cheapest items that you usually find at the store but the price increase hasn't gone unnoticed during this difficult time where so much of the industry has been impacted by the recent crisis.
It is expected that as things return to normal in the market that this will help to reduce the prices in the future for some wondering if they might ever come back down again. However, it isn't clear how much inflation might be playing a direct role in price increases either at this time and what if anything in price will be reversed or when.
