During the pandemic crime seemed to get a bit worse. The US murder rate was found to increase around 30% during the pandemic which was one of the highest increases in one year.

Since the pandemic things haven't improved that much, some regions have seen more of a problem with crime than others.

A few of those areas struggling more than others include New York City, Philly, Washington, ATL, and Baltimore. Multiple reports have suggested that crime has remained high since the pandemic.

The FBI reported finding steady crime rates last year.

We have heard and seen numerous stories online sharing various accounts of robberies and different attacks.

There have been multiple stories of crime in the subway in NYC, train robberies, store thefts, ATM thefts are on the rise and passing historic highs, and more.

Violent crime has been up over 50% on the NYC subway, early this year it was seen that robberies had reportedly gone up over 70% compared to the previous year around the same time period.

Authorities have already allegedly started cracking down in New York to get a hold of the problem and over 1500 tickets have gone out, with over 100 arrests allegedly made so far.

Since they've paid more attention to the situation now, might the worst be over?

The worsening economic situation and financial pain that many are suffering has already prompted some to ask if crime and inflation might go hand in hand.

While some say statistically you are safe on the NYC subway for example that might not be enough to calm the fears of those who have heard more than one story about one victimization or another. Are they happening more frequently or are we just hearing about them more often? Not all crimes that take place get reported and so even with the reporting we do see that still might not give the whole picture of what is going on.

Safety becoming a top voting issue

Politicians then who make matters worse as far as inflation goes might unintentionally fuel more undesired consequences. We can already see that safety and crime are once more becoming one of the most important issues for many voters out there today.
