Adoptions For Cats And Dogs Grows 10x

There is a growing shortage of dogs and cats to adopt as people make a run on animal shelters during this time.

Stories have been circulating on social media about animals in shelters around the United States that might need to be put down because of limited resources and space.

This has fueled a rapid increase in adoption rates for some centers. As well, aside from concern over those that might be lost, another driving factor for adoption in recent weeks has also likely been the newfound boredom that many are dealing with, being stuck at home for weeks.

Why not bring in a new pet family member to add a little fun to the isolation? It's what some families are doing.

But not every adoption center has seen a rise in adoptions, but they are still doing what they can to connect with the community and those who might be willing to offer a pet a new home.

For shelters around the New York city region, they are reportedly seeing a 10x increase in adoption rates for dogs and cats.

Various pet adoption centers and organizations are now offering virtual pet adoption to try and continue helping those animals in need find a good home. They have also been looking to temporarily suspend adoption fees as well or reduce them for new adoptions.

For one recent virtual adoption fair, hosted by the West Valley City Animal Shelter, the event helped to draw in more viewers than any other city-produced Facebook Live event had ever been able to achieve before.

Technology is helping those shelters stay connected and find solutions to the pets that need a home.

They want to be able to engage in social distancing while still providing that service, and many of them are doing a great job of it so far.
