Since taking a sleeping bus is not really comfortable and to from Hue to Hanoi it would furthermore take around 12 hours the decision to get from Hue to Hanoi by plane was pretty easy ^^.
Ha Long Bay - in the background it is slightly visible how big it is
Main reason to go to Hanoi was without any doubt the famous Ha Long Bay.
The trip to Ha Long Bay took 2 days. From Hanoi itself it takes some time to get to the port and from there several toursits ships take off to go around the bay.
The ship itself was already a bit old, but did his service well. Overall it was all very clean and food was also delicious. We even made vietnamese style spring rolls by ourself ^^.
Main attractions are also:
- kayaking around the islands
- visiting an impressive cave
Sadly for both things I didn't have any cam with me so I can't show you any pictures about it. It was really nice and impressive.
Many of our tour group had a 3 days tour and went on the 3rd day to Cat Ba Island - sadly our plan was very tight so a 2 days tour had to do it. Overall I think it is enough time to see impressive Ha Long Bay.
What else is interesting in Hanoi:

small fish market
since it was one of many locals favorite activity: having a chat while enjoying vietnamese coffee with a bag of nuts and all sitting on terrible low chairs - i could get used to it ^^
cathedral - resembling Notre Dame in Paris
an elderly woman on the way to sell flowers at one of the markets
Hoan Kiem lake by night - it is a really peaceful and quiet park
Furthermore there would have been also the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, but I didn't went to there.
Ha Long Bay is really amazing and so I would recommend to go there. Hopefully with a good weather. Sadly there are usually many tourists boats around going to similar places.
