Visiting this Zoroastrian fire temple (called "Atashgah") in Isfahan/Esfehan, Iran is an amazing experience for two reasons - firstly the actual pre-Islamic history of the place itself, and secondly the view of Iran's second city. Priests used to kept a sacred flame burning for many centuries, which was built a millennium before Islam was founded. Zoroastrianism is the ancient religion in Iran and is still practised to this day in pockets of the country, though most Zoroastrians left to India (where they are known as Parsis) between the 8th and 10th Century
