I was watching a video on dtube by a person who goes by the name, enjoyinglife. He noted that there are many many accounts on the block-chain that appear to be ghost accounts, accounts that are just set up with no activity on them and very little profile data. It only took a second to realize that this could be an enormous loophole that would allow a person to manipulate the value the steem market by massivly buying or selling holdings via automated bots. I'm new to the community, but I wonder if anybody has thought of this as it pertains to this situation. Do we even have an oversight group to prevent this possible destructive practice? These kinds of things can trigger a run on the market or even worse, a market crash.
Also, as many of you may know, YouTube is and was plagued by trolls using blank, or 'sock' accounts to socially wreak havoc all over that platform. also not to mention a lot of the downsides of what has happened on Facebook.
Two words... Chatbot Phishing
Yes, you the intelligent reader may be savvy to it, but think of your grandma or grandpa, and soon, your moms and dads. I mean some of these things are damned convincing. As Steemit becomes more popular and accessible to that segment of the people, this is going to be something to consider.
Would it be too hard to send a simple message with a captcha image to an inactive account, asking for a response maybe once a week? That may not be the most elegant solution, but I'm sure an algorithm could be developed.
I'm a baby to this place, and it may show in this post. If there have been measures taken, then I'm just tossing sticks to the wind :). Still, I wonder. I may post a video later on this. Video seems to get around a little better.
What do you think? Are these concerns well founded? I invite your comments.
