As mentioned in the previous post, this year I've been trying to master things I'm passionate about.
There's that saying about how you learn one new thing a day, so I decided to start documenting what I learned each day to see if this is really true. If I don't learn something new that day, I'm going to force myself to do so, especially in the areas that I want to get good at. I've decided to post my learnings on Steemit so I can hold myself accountable :).
This time, most of the learnings are around stocks, retirement, real estate investment, and music. Here is my progress so far:
7.3
- Capital gains tax = when you sell something for more than you purchased it for. at 55 you don't have to pay it
- Hanson was apparently an underrated group. Mmbop was a pretty deep song that they wrote :O. Also they did a reunion performance and their harmonies were amazing!
7.4
- Hapkido is a type of Korean martial arts, and it has some spiritual tenets which is pretty cool.
7.5
- After retirement, you get social security payments. I always thought you have to only depend on your own savings. To qualify you basically have to have worked for 10 years. I also wondered what happens if you retire early. Basically if you retire early, they count your top 35 years of working and calculate SS based on that.
- Market cap = stock price x number of shares. A stock with a large cap = less risky
- Income stocks pay dividends
- Growth stocks are more for appreciation
- Beta = the volatility compared to an index. A less than 1 beta = less risky
- Standard deviation = variance of a stock measured over time
- A music learning: when adding effects, use a send so that it uses less CPU (I think).
That is all for now!
