It seems like there’s a big confusion about why do we need a proposal system on a blockchain. I decided to give my two cents, even though it seems like everybody who wanted have already expressed their opinion on this issue. It’s funny that I developed some stuff to help people visualize the concept, yet I never directly said anything about it.
Anyways, I believe SPS is what will bring Steem closer to DAO aka Decentralized Autonomous Organization. See, self-budgeting and decision-making mechanism should be default options of every blockchain. It just better this way. The blockchain grows faster in terms of usage and it attracts higher quality of people because they see a potential in what this platform can transform.
In fact, to unleash the full potential and power of Steem, we must diversify our development, marketing and sales efforts in the favor of the community. I didn’t fully understand how important this is earlier but now I can clearly see that the core team of any company is nothing without a support from its ambassadors and local leaders. Imagine how difficult it is to expand to unknown markets while having no connections and insiders who can explain the rules of that region? Trust me, it’s a pain in the ass and unfortunately, I’ve been there as well.
One of the primary reasons why I decided to become even more involved in SPS is because I had enough experience in a similar budgeting system in Dash. I was the very first guy who received funding from Dash DAO in Ukraine and had successfully completed several proposals within my company. This allowed me to experiment and test this approach through practitionership. I know the biggest pitfalls and challenges that will arise in Steem budgeting system which is why I’ll try to outline most of them in the next few posts.
