As you can see from the weighting chart the first 80% of the time frame lost 20%. While the next 20% lose 30%!!
Don't let this discourage you from donating now... Bidding $1K now will net you roughly half the round as only ~$830 has been donated and most of that has been closer to 90% multiple. But in 6 days that same amount will only net ~5/13ths, a slippery slope.

See how the first 1 Steem is worth 20769.591 and as the round progresses it's weighted to 19975.402. If you divide the last entrant by 6.002 then each 1 Steem is 17516.696.
Not all of these are direct correlation as several people have made multiple buys which are all weighted by donation time.
What happens at the end of this round? These amounts get "locked" and a new block comes up for auction. Each of these new blocks are 312,500 tokens instead of the initial 20,000,000 tokens.
This means it's up for you to decide the best time to donate. Let's assume you want to donate $1k, right now that would net roughly 10M Tokens if nobody else buys. You can wait until the last block of the round and make sure nobody else donates and you'd receive roughly 7.5M. And the first round of the next block: 312,500.
If you are bullish on Steem and think the future has AR and VR... and that other people will want to own some of the tokens that encourage that content(games, education, social entertainments like quiz shows, etc) then donating early is your best bet. If somebody donated 1K in any subsequent round those the apparent value of all tokens would jump from the current level to 60x.
All donations are valued in STEEM only, which means you don't have to worry about the price action changing the amount of tokens you receive.
