This is something I want to address before it starts to become a thing to big to do anything about, and that is Memes on The Anime Realm. The reason I created the Anime Realm was to encourage people on Hive to be a bit more active in creating anime content. Since starting I have begun to see more reviews and other types of post about Anime, and I love that the project has seem some small success.
The thing is, while I do love memes, and a few funny ones have been posted, there is no getting around Memes are fairly low effort content to produce, so if Memes become a big part of the The Anime Realm I'm worried that if TAR starts to get big, we'll see content become buried under a large quantity of memes. That is a bit counter productive to what I wanted to do with The Anime Realm.
Mind you, this just applies to posts that are just memes. If your post just has memes in them that is perfectly fine regardless of what I end up doing in the future.
If my worry comes true, and we do hit a point Memes take up a huge portion of the community and make other content hard to find (Reviews, OP-Ed pieces, AMV's, fan art, ect.), doing something about it then would just lose a huge portion of the audience, and this already after many others may have been discouraged from coming here because of content getting buried.
I am unsure if this is an unfounded worry or a legit one, or how everyone else in the Community feels about the matter. So while I take some time to make my decision, I want to here your thoughts. With plenty of meme tags and communities already existing on Hive, would it be best to keep them off The Anime Realm? Should I allow them to be posted here? This is the first time I've really felt I had to sit down and think about something like this, so I want to be confident in the decision I make, so I really do want some feedback on the issue.
Regardless of my decision, I will not remove any that have already been posted, that would just feel like an asshole move on my part as this wasn't a rule or anything discussed prior to that.
I set up a Straw Poll (I was going to use DPoll, but I'd have to set up a Hive Signer and am too lazy), so feel free to vote on this link if you'd like. I'd rather hear some reasoning from you than just a vote on a poll, but a big enough volume swinging one way or the other is something I'll be taking into consideration as well.
