On a while I never saw the big appeal of Naruto. While there are some great moments, Gaara Vs. Lee being my own personal highlight of the series, I think the main characters are absolutely terrible. Kakashi was great, but the rest of Team Seven was pretty boring Cliques by the time that show even came out.

Pretty much all the best moments of the show are had by everyone besides the main characters. Naruto coming back from the Pain Fight was a bit of an exception, but now we see the conclusion of his character Arc. Becoming Hokage was never really the goal, it was acceptance which he got in full after that. As a character Naruto didn't really have anywhere to go after that but.... the story kept going.
