They way Epic has been doing it, like with my example on Shenmue III, is definitely shitty. As scummy as that move was on their part though, exclusivity in and of itself is a different issue.

In general I don't like the concept of exclusivity, but at the same time I kind of think it's a necessary evil. Almost any feature a company can come up with can be replicated by it's competitors, meaning if one company already has the majority market share, competition becomes virtually impossible as they can just replicate the feature, leaving people no reason to leave.

It's why I could never really argue against the idea of exclusivity on the console market place. (As well as the fact that I can't find a reason to justify a game funded or made by Nintendo should have to exist on another platform. See Bayonetta 2, a game that wouldn't exist if Nintendo didn't step in to fund the development).
