Hi there. Here is a food review post by me.
I check out a local The Keg Steakhouse for mostly steak. It is not often I have steak but here we go. It was also Father's Day.
I might have been at The Keg once at a different location with friends. It may been a long time ago. 15 years ago maybe.
The Keg Steakhouse + Bar is a Canadian Steakhouse chain/franchise that specializes in premium steaks and prime rib. I have heard they are more a mid-tier steakhouse. Higher end steakhouses have steak dishes at at least 100 CAD. Here is more at the 50 to 70 CAD range.
They have many locations across Canada.
Here is the outside of the one we went to.

To start we (4 of us) ordered calamari and 4 slider burgers (or mini burgers).
The slider burgers have prime rib and comes with horseradish. This horseradish mix is very strong. Like wasabi strong. I though these burgers were really good.
I have had calamari at other similar Western eateries with work colleagues. I did expect a large plate of fried calamari pieces. This one came with a few fried jalapeno pepper slices. As these pepper slices were fried, they were not that spicy. Pretty good overall.
Bread was provided along with butter. This bread was crunchy on the outside. The bread inside was soft and warm.
Instead of ordering one steak dish per person, it was a bit more economical to order a 27 ounce steak platter. This platter has:
The steak comes in slices that makes it shareable for groups. We also got the Bernaise sauce and the whisky pepercorn sauce.
As I am not a big steak eater, I was not sure which piece was which. We ordered all the meats in medium well. The steak here along with the suaces were good. Nine out of ten.
This Lobster Tail dish was for my mom and I as the others don't like seafood that much. It comes with two lobster tails and butter. We also got fries as an add-on.
I thought that this dish was not that good. The lobster tail itself is mostly steamed. The taste would come from adding butter or any sauce. For 60 CAD for two lobster tail, I don't think this is worth it. Chinese dinner buffets are almost at 60 CAD per person and you get way more bang for your buck than this. Japanese or Korean all you can eat BBQ are almost 60 CAD per person and they give good value over this lobster tail.
For some moments I was eating the lobster, I thought to myself that I could maybe some recipes online and make my own lobster tail dish.
For me, I had no room for dessert. Plus I did not want to eat too much. My brother wanted dessert. The two desserts we ordered were a Billy Miner Pie and chocolate gelato.
Billy Miner Pie
This is The Keg's most popular dessert. It is a tall ice cream cake with chocolate crust, fudge, caramel and sliced almonds. I had one spoonful of it. It was okay. As I am not a fan of caramel, this one is not something I would have much of.
Seasonal Sorbet - Chocolate
On the menu, they say seasonal sorbet. Ask your server for details. We did that and found out it was chocolate. I would expect something like Raspberry, Strawberry or Mango during June. Chocolate?! Even the server was disappointed. This Seasonal Sorbet thing is a management decision I suppose.
My dad was okay with chocolate so we ordered it.
The Keg restaurant is a nice place. It was busy on a Father's Day but it did not feel chaotic. My brother did a reservation weeks in advance which cuts down on wait times.
The appetizers we chose and the steaks were good. Say no to the lobster tail. And the desserts seemed okay. (Note that I did not try much dessert.)
My brother did not like this one thing in particular. The waitress checks in 3 minutes after the steak arrives asking if everything is okay. I think my brother at this point has not tried the steak yet as he was eating other items.
When it comes to price, this place is sort of pricey. I don't know the price of the bill as my brother treated us. It may have been nearly 300 CAD after tips.
Being Asian myself, I would favour Chinese, Korean or Japanese buffets/ all you can eat places than The Keg if you want more bang for your buck while dining out.
The Keg is good for steak but not for seafood. If you want seafood, go to downtown Toronto or Richmond Hill/Markham for Chinese restaurant seafood. One place that I went to and mentioned in a previous post is Fishman Lobster Clubhouse in Scarborough (east of Toronto).
Rating for The Keg: 7.5 out of 10. It's okay overall. Be careful of what you order and it is kind of pricey.
