Hi there. In this post, I highlight some crazy stuff where people go crazy for the Pokemon 30th anniversary special set.
I do play the Pokemon TCG and do some collecting. When it comes to special sets, I skip them. Product is hard to find as they get sold out so fast. Plus there are bunch of people going crazy for these sets. When you see these videos below, you will understand more why I skip these special sets. Avoid the crowds, weird people, scalpers and possibly violence.
Pokemon Cards Demand
Ever since Pokemon 151 special set and the Surging Sparks set in late 2024 that features Pikachu ex, Pokemon cards demand have gone up. Prices have gone up with crazy demand.
Prices of Pokemon cards tend to go up over time. Not every card but typically art cards like these ones below go up in price.
You can go to a site like TCGPlayer to see the market price of various cards and sealed products over time. Something like the 151 Ultra Premium collection had a market value of around 600 USD in January 2026. I write this in late September 2026 where the price is around 855 USD. This is a 42.5% increase. There are some more extreme cases where cards or products can double, triple or 10x in market price within 5 years. These are better gains the stock market.
With crazy price increases, why be in stocks and cryptos when something like Pokemon card prices go up over time? Because of this scalpers and investors have entered the Pokemon cards space. Maybe some exited sneakers and entered Pokemon cards.
These scalpers go pretty extreme with the buy low and sell high mentality. They buy a lot of product with no intention of opening booster packs. Then they resell their inventory at higher prices mostly at Ebay or some other marketplace site.
Scalpers are generally looked down upon as they are not in for the game. They just want to make money for themselves.
Pokestreetz Youtube Channel
If you enjoy watching people doing irrational things for product, then this if for you. I like Pokemon cards but not as much as these crazy people.
Pokestreetz is a Youtube channel that gathers clips of people going crazy for Pokemon cards. The oldest shorts video appears to be from the Destined Rivals era in May 2025. The videos typically shows crowds, long lineups, camping at stores and some fighting for Pokemon cards. This is for entertainment purposes I guess.

Actual Violent Clip
In this short video, it appears that the people are camping outside a store overnight on a Tuesday evening. The 30th celebration set was on Wednesday Sept 16, 2026. A fight breaks out and maybe there was a knife.
It is like having Fighting Pokemon punching and wrestling each other. Then there is at least one person with a Honedge (knife). Some swear words are spoken along with the N word. Some wild stuff.
It seems that the Pokestreetz videos are in the United States. Maybe Canada. I don't think these crazy events happen everywhere. In some areas probably.
You see this crazy stuff for cards and collectibles. Imagine the behaviours during a financial collapse? Hmm. 馃

This looks like it's a bunch of people waiting for a midnight video game release. Nope its for Pokemon cards the next business day.
Other Notes
Big box stores like Target, Best Buy, Walmart and Gamestop mostly in the United States should do limit buys. But they don't. As a result you get crazy people barging in the store wanting to get product. It becomes like a WWE style battle royal similar to Black Friday deals in the USA. Local card stores implement limit buys and not big box stores??!!
As much as there is a craze for the 30th Anniversary set, the price of single cards are dropping as time goes on. I write this on Sept 21, 2026 which is 5 days after release. More products and cards are being brought to the market which is a big factor with falling prices. Scalpers get hurt when prices fall. They get left holding the bag and suffer losses. Lower prices helps out the collectors and players.
Some of these scalpers are posting on the interwebs on how angry/disappointed they are that they are unable to flip for profits. These scalpers also play victim on the internet. Kind of crazy if you ask me. They have overextended with bulk credit card purchases hoping that the prices go high. Now they are left holding the bag along with credit card debt. A win for collectors and players and a loss for scalpers. Let's see over time how this unfolds.
