Hi there. There is a new set reveal for the Pokemon TCG Pocket mobile game. This new set is called Ruler of The Skies. The featured Pokemon is Rayquaza.
Psyduck is not the most dangerous attacker out there. The Migrane attack for 1 Energy deals 10 damage plus it can cause confusion. Flip one coin. If Heads then the opponent's Active Pokemon is Confused. If you get Tails your own Psyduck is Confused.
Absol seems like a good early game attacker. Enhanced Blade requires 1 Dark Energy to deal 20 damage. This attack does an extra 30 damage if this Absol has a Pokemon Tool attached.
Skyla is a niche Supporter card that is compatible with an Active Stage 1 Pokemon. You switch out your Active Stage 1 Pokemon with a Benched Pokemon. If your Stage 1 Pokemon is stuck or vulnerable in the Active Spot, Skyla acts like a Switch.
Wally is a niche Supporter for Stage 2 Pokemon. You take 1 Colourless Energy from your Energy Zone and attach it to 1 of your Stage 2 Pokemon. Wally provides energy acceleration to Stage 2 Pokemon that would benefit from a Colourless Energy.
Rainbow Cave is a new Stadium card. The effect can be used once during each player's turn. That player may discard the Energy generated in their Energy Zone. After discarding, the next Energy is produced.
This Stadium effect is more for attackers that have different energy types in their attacks (i.e. Dragon Pokemon). As an example, if you have Fire Energy in the queue then you discard that and get the Water Energy that is behind the Fire Energy.
Here is one of the early illustration art cards revealed in this set.
Genesect is a Basic Metal Pokemon with 100 HP, a one retreat cost and Fire weakness. For two Metal Energy, the Techno Blast attack deals 70 damage. The downside is that the Genesect cannot attack during your next turn after it used Techno Blast.
Mega Metagross is the final Stage 2 evolution of Beldum. This Mega Stage 2 has 230 HP, a 3 retreat cost and Fire weakness.
Gatling Slug requires 3 of any energy to deal 100 base damage. This attack does 10 more damage for each Metal Energy attached to Mega Metagross ex. Ten more damage for each Metal Energy is not that good. Since Mega Metagross does not require Metal Energy for its attack, you can run this evolution line in a Grass deck, Fire deck, Lightning deck and so on.
Mega Gallade ex is the final evolution of Ralts and the alternate evolution of Gardevoir. Resonating Blade requires 1 Fighting Energy and 2 Colourless Energy to deal 100 base damage. If your played a Supporter card from your hand during this turn, then this attack does 50 more damage.
Both Mega Gallade ex and Mega Metagross ex take time to get into play as they are Stage 2 Pokemon. Their Energy requirements are kind of high too.
Swanna ex is the Stage 1 evolution of Ducklett. This has 150 HP, a two retreat cost, Lightning weakness and just one attack. Jet Wing for 3 Colourless Energy deals 140 damage. During your next turn, this Pokemon cannot attack.
Dragonair as an attacker is not great. The ability, Dragon's Blessing, is useful for Dragon decks. Once during your turn, if this Pokemon is on your Bench, you may attach 1 Energy from your discard pile and attach it to your Active Dragon Pokemon. Dragon Pokemon includes Mega Rayquaza ex (see below) or Mega Dragonite ex.
Here is Mega Rayquaza ex. This Basic Mega Pokemon has 180 HP, a one retreat cost and zero weakness. Mega Burst requires 1 Fire Energy and 1 Lightning Energy for the attack. You discard all Fire and Lightning Energy from this Pokemon. This Mega Burst attack deals 50 damage for each energy discarded in this way. At the minimum, this attack deals 100 damage.
Mega Houndoom ex is the evolved form of Hondour. This Stage 1 Fire Mega Pokemon ex has 190 HP, an unknown retreat cost and most likely Water weakness. The Grimhound Flare attack requires 2 Fire Energy and 1 Colourless Energy. You flip 3 coins and deal 80 damage for each Heads. A coin flip attack on a Stage 1 Mega? No thank you.
Pachirisu is a 70 HP Basic Lightning Pokemon. The Crackling Snap attack requires 1 Lightning Energy for 30 base damage. Discard the top card of your deck. If that discarded card is an Item card, then you deal 20 more damage. I don't like this attack. As there is not much recovery cards, discarding an Item card seems suicidal in a 20 card deck.
Thank you for reading.
