Hi there. In this post I cover the Mega Starter decks revealed from Japan.
There are 3 deck products with a featured illustration card. You have the Eevee deck, Meowscarada ex deck and the Zoroark ex deck.
Outside of Japan, we don't really get these decks. Cards from these Japanese decks are typically found in later sets worldwide.
Pawmi and Pawmo are not scary attackers but are needed for Pawmot.
Pawmot is a Stage 2 Lightning Pokemon. Electric Punch requires 1 Lightning Energy and 1 of any Energy to deal 100 damage.
The Power Plant Touch ability can be used once during your turn. You may attach one Basic Lightning Energy from your discard pile to 1 of your Pokemon. This ability is better than Eelektrik as Eelektrik accelerates Lightning Energy to your Benched Pokemon while Pawmot can attach to anywhere from the discard pile.
Eevee ex is a Basic Pokemon ex of the Colourless type. The first attack, Collect, for one energy lets you draw 3 cards. Drawing 3 cards is pretty good but you do risk a 2 Prize Pokemon in the Active Spot.
Brave Dash requires 3 of any Energy to deal 200 damage. Flip a coin. If it is Tails, this Pokemon does 30 damage to itself.
Delibird is a 90 HP Colourless Pokemon with Lightning weakness, Fighting resistance and a one retreat cost.
The Beat attack won't be used much for one Energy to deal 10 damage.
What makes Delibird interesting and usable in some decks is the Energy Present ability. Once during your turn, if this Pokemon is in your Active Spot, you may look at the top 6 cards of your deck, choose 1 Energy you find there. Reveal it and put it into your hand. (Shuffle deck after and put the other cards to the bottom of deck.)
The problem with this Delibird is that you need this in the Active Spot to use the ability. Also, the top 6 cards may not have an Energy card.
Sprigatito and Floragato are not big attackers but are needed for Meowscarada ex.
Meowscarada ex has 320 HP, a two retreat cost and Fire weakness. It has just one attack.
Magical Bullet requires 2 Grass Energy to deal 120 damage plus 120 damage to one of your opponent's Benched Pokemon with any damage counters on it.
This Meowscarada ex does seem underpowered and does not seem good enough for competitive play.
Smoliv and Dolliv has decent one Grass Energy attacks. These are not scary attackers but not needed for Arboliva or Arboliva ex.
Arboliva is an okay attacker. Mega Drain for 1 Grass and 1 Colourless Energy for 100 damage is okay.
Oil Slip can be used once during your turn. You may switch your opponent's Active Pokemon with 1 of their Benched Pokemon.
Purrloin is not a big attacker but it is needed for Liepard.
Liepard's Slash is not great but the Pursuit Claw attack can be deadly. For one Dark Energy, Pursuit Claw does 20 damage for each damage counter on the opponent's Active Pokemon.
Zorua is not a great attacker but it is needed for Zoroark ex.
Zoroark ex seems okay. It is not weak but the attacks are not too strong. Slash Down for 1 Dark and 2 Colourless Energy does 210 damage but you cannot use this attack during your next turn.
Riotous Beating requires 1 Dark Energy to deal 20 damage for each Pokemon you have in play. You can include Area Zero Underdepths with Tera Pokemon to expand your Bench and increase damage.
Eevee is not strong but needed for its evolutions.
Jolteon is a 110 HP Lightning Pokemon with a zero retreat cost and Fighting weakness. Tackle for 1 Lightning Energy deals 30 damage. Thunderbolt requires 3 Lightning Energy to deal 220 damage and then you discard all Energy attached to Jolteon.
This evolution line of Carvanha and Sharpedo don't seem that good. There are better options than these two.
This Darkrai is not a big attacker but it is okay in the early game as a single prize attacker.
This Dark Morpeko is not awful because of its Call For Family attack. However, it is not good enough for competitive play.
Zarude's first attack is okay. The second attack, Special Whip, can deal big damage if you are lucky. The chance of double heads from 2 flips is 25%. Gambling type players may find this Zarude appealing.
