It's that time again. Rap Gallery is featuring another artist. This time, we're speaking with Metatron Xavier -- a South African rapper who reached out to me via e-mail. At first, Metatron seems a man of few words outside of the booth -- but after I listened to the track he sent to me, it became clear that he's got lyrical prowess. Keep reading, as we learn a bit more about Xavier Metatron.

1. What name do you perform under, and how did you choose it?

2. Are you a vocalist, a producer, or something else?
I'm a rapper.
3. When did you start?
I started rapping in 2010 but only recorded my first track this year (2019).
4. What made you decide to pursue music?
[It's an expression of] the things I've seen and experienced.
5. Which music influenced you as a kid?
Rap music (in general).
6. Which music influences you most today?
Also Rap music.
7. What projects, if any, are you working on now?
My debut extended play: 'Dark Future'.
8. Name one or two other artists you think more people should know about.
Definitely Immortal Technique and PdotO.
9. What is the biggest obstacle you face as an artist?
Promotion, really.
10. Where are you from? What's the local music scene like there?
South Africa. Music is really appreciated here but not all artists are recognized.
11. What are you most proud of as an artist?
Being able to get my music out there.
12. Do you have any regrets or complaints as an artist?
Yes. (details withheld)
13. Not including rap/hip-hop, what is your favorite genre and why?
RnB. It helps me think, and sometimes inspires me to write new tracks.
14. Did you have any lessons or formal training?
No.
15. Aside from music, what do you like to do with your free time?
Reading about my people and the place I'm from.
16. Describe the perfect day.
Making the people around me smile, and being able to get done with a track or two.
17. What is the message you want your listeners to understand the most?
Never give up, no matter where you're from. Keep pushing and never tell people every move you make.
18. If you won $100,000 today, what would you do with it?
I'd use it to help my mother with her bills, help out in my community, and buy some recording equipment.
19. Tell us something about yourself that we didn't ask.
I'm a proud African boy who's trying to empower my people.
