I grew up star wars. The new hope is great. I can recite so many new hope quotes and picture the scenes in my mind as I'm completing the quote. Empire Strikes Back is almost every fans favorite of the series, and no exception in my case. Return of the Jedi and the drama that unfolds in Jabba's palace is the ultimate make believe scenerio you could play out as a child in the 80's. As star wars evolved, and the special editions were released it brought fans back to the cinema. Star wars books kept us occupied until the prequels came forth, but the suspense building up to these movies was so exciting. I can remember talking with my friends, saying things like " I can't believe were going back to a time where there will be many jedi knights and we'll be seeing them in action." Episode one then gave us much needed back story information. The prequels answered many questions as they should. We found out how R2D2 got involved. (answer) R2D2 was a repair astro mech for the queens guard on Naboo. How did C3PO come to be in the movies? (old answer, what we knew) He and R2D2 were droids aboard a chancellor ship. We didn't learn all the new information until you view the rest of the trilogy. We don't know anything about Captain Antilles, tantive four, or why C3PO does't remember Obi-wan until that information is presented. Episode two seems to be a less likable movie for the fans. One hypothesis of why, is it's a love story, and perhaps some think that has no place in the star wars saga. However it is the very reason for anakin's turn to the dark side. By the time of his betrayal from the jedi order anakin develops close tie with many characters besides Padme. (shmi, ahsoka,) It was ultimately Anakins fear of losing Padme that was the most influential in his decision to turn against the jedi. Episode two brings his emotions to the forefront of the films, all while recognizing perhaps the biggest plot twist of all the movies. Anakin is driven not by Chancellor's Palpitines seduction over him but the seduction of not wanting to come to terms with losing his wife. The score by John Williams "across the stars" in episode II was sweet, I learned it on the keyboard and play them one after another, Imperial March, empire strikes back, force theme, and across the stars. Seeing that episode II is a least favorite for most, I argue it leads into a time period where some very exciting stories take place and its all cannon. The Clone Wars, with so much back story and such an diversity of on going situations, absorbing all this is well worth the time. In fact Lucas set this back story in my opinion so well that the story could be set in stone for future movies. Episode III we saw the rise of the darkside and the stories hero's were slaughtered and the ultimate bad guy was born. For years we speculated on anakin's demise and finally we saw a masterful political deception that explained everything. Rogue one while not officially cannon takes you to the moments before the 1977 film and the CGI was spot on, bringing characters back like they never left. You get tons of back story and feel the force in the film. This was the only disney star wars movie I have been a fan of. The force awakens has some good moments and the last jedi has a few less, but I don't feel the star wars presentation in these films. Just when I felt they might be on to something it faded, examples were, kylo stopping a blaster laser. No one has done this, Vader blocked fire with his hand and jedi repelled blasters with their light sabers, Kylo did it one time, and never again. We hear obi wan tell ray these were her first steps, and then nothing more. More recently we are lead to believe snoke must be pretty powerful, then he's not. So what did you like about the new films and what don't you understand, I know I can describe the disappointment I felt from these disney star wars films, but maybe we don't have to talk about all that....
